Understanding Hit-and-Run Accidents
A hit-and-run accident involves a driver leaving the scene of a crash without stopping to provide information or assist the injured, as required by law.
These incidents not only pose risks for victims but also create challenges for emergency services and law enforcement in Virginia Beach.
Statistical Overview
Virginia Beach is one of the largest cities in the state, with a high volume of annual vehicle crashes. While most are not hit-and-run incidents, these remain a public safety issue.
In 2024, the city reported a decline in many traffic-related crimes and fatalities, highlighting ongoing efforts to improve road safety.
However, hit-and-run crashes still account for a troubling proportion of overall accidents.
At the state level, Virginia reported over 127,000 vehicle crashes in 2023, with approximately 3–4% of all reported crashes involving hit-and-run incidents, reflecting the consistently high risk on local roads.
