5 people, including 4 children, seriously injured in Virginia Beach crash on Landstown Road
Four juveniles and one adult suffered life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Landstown Road in Virginia Beach, police said.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Five people, including four kids, suffered life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Virginia Beach.
Emergency Communications and Citizens Services received a report around 1:45 p.m. about a crash in the 2000 block of Landstown Road.
When Virginia Beach police officers and EMS crews arrived, they found several people injured.
Police said four minors and one adult suffered life-threatening injuries. The injured adult was the driver of one of the vehicles.
The other driver was not injured.
All five patients were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
When 13News Now arrived on scene, one of the vehicles involved could be seen overturned in the roadway. Debris was scattered across the intersection, including vehicle parts, personal belongings, and children’s shoes.
For nearby resident Gina Peterson, the crash was unlike anything she had seen before in the area.
“None of the accidents that I have ever seen have been this bad,” Peterson said.
Peterson, who lives nearby and frequently rides her bike through the area, said she has often worried about driver behavior near the intersection.
“Usually it’s not too bad, but when we get to that intersection where the YMCA is, people have almost hit us a few times making that right turn,” Peterson said.
She hopes those injured in the crash make a full recovery.
“Hopefully everybody pulls through, and hopefully the doctors are able to work their magic, and the life-threatening injuries aren’t so life-threatening in a few hours,” Peterson said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
