4 injured after fiery 5-vehicle crash on I-264 West in Virginia Beach
All of the westbound lanes of I-264 had shut down in Virginia Beach after multiple vehicles crashed. Two cars caught fire, state police said.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Traffic is backed up multiple miles after a fiery crash occurred on I-264 West on Friday afternoon.
The crash involved five vehicles near the Independence Boulevard exit in Virginia Beach. Two cars had caught fire, and the Virginia Beach Fire Department responded to the scene, according to Virginia State Police.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicated the crash started when a Chevy Trailblazer lost control while exiting the ramp from northbound Independence Boulevard, triggering a chain-reaction collision. Then two of the vehicles caught fire.
Four people sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
According to state police, all westbound lanes were closed on I-264 but have since reopened.
