VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A motorcyclist is dead following a high-speed pursuit in Virginia Beach on Monday morning, Virginia State Police said.

According to VSP, around 1:30 a.m., a trooper attempted to stop a Honda motorcycle on I-264 East near Rosemont Road for reckless driving and speeding. The motorcyclist did not stop, and a pursuit then began.
The motorcycle exited the interstate at Lynnhaven Parkway, and the motorcyclist was allegedly driving over 100 miles per hour when crossing the intersection of Lynnhaven and Fern Ridge Road. A Virginia Beach Police Department vehicle, which was not involved in the pursuit, was crossing the intersection when the motorcycle crashed into it.
The motorcyclist was ejected and died at the scene. Virginia Beach police say their officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
The motorcyclist has not been identified at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
