As reported by 13News Now, on November 30, 2022, 14 children were injured when a school bus ran off the road in Accomack County, Virginia, striking a power pole. At the time of the crash, there were 25 children onboard, ranging from 5 to 10 years old, headed to Pungoteague Elementary School. Although none of the children were reported to be seriously hurt, an accident involving a school bus is a terrifying thought to any parent.

According to Virginia’s Highway Safety Office, in 2021, there were 399 bus accidents in Virginia, which made up 0.3% of all traffic accidents. As a result of those 399 bus accidents, two occupants were killed, 179 were injured, and four were seriously injured. While both the fatalities and the majority of the injuries were suffered by adult passengers, children were not immune from injury, with statistics showing that numerous children, five of whom were under the age of eight, were injured.
