VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Saturday evening, a car crashed into the side of a local bar in Virginia Beach. We’ve reached out to Virginia Beach police and are waiting for more details, but people at the bar tell us no one seemed to be hurt.
The car came straight through the wall of the business. On a Saturday evening, packed with customers, the Double D’s Pub & Grub on Bonney Road Drive near Virginia Beach Boulevard turned into a chaotic scene when a car slammed into the building.
“It was frightening because my biggest fear was that someone was hurt,” said Diane Love.
“It was extremely scary,” said employee Tiffany Munden.
Those who were inside at the time of the crash say they heard a loud noise before the car burst through the wall.
“It was about 5:00, bar full, then next thing you know it sounded like someone was trying to shoot the building up,” said Munden. “That’s exactly what it sounded like. I was standing at the end of the bar and then the next thing you know we saw a car just drive just drive through the building.”
“It was frightening, especially because it was the busiest time of the day,” said Love.
“So we had customers hitting the floor, it was chaotic for a little while,” said Munden.
The car was inside of the building on the east side of the bar, inches away from where people were sitting..
“Our pool tables are over there so there’s a table where people sit so on an average day around that time it’s usually pretty busy,” said Munden. “We usually have 10-15 people in that area so we were grateful nobody was over there during that time.”
“We were getting ready to sit there…so everything really truly does happen for a reason,” said Love.
After a near-death experience, employees are just thankful to be alive and are looking forward to opening back up for business this week.
“We are extremely grateful because it definitely could’ve been a lot worse,” said Munden. “The walls can be replaced in any building, but the lives that are in here cannot so we were all incredibly blessed and incredibly thankful that nothing happened that was worse than what it was.”
Double D’s pub & Grub expects to be back open for business Sunday morning after having to close early on Saturday night.
